CEMVO SCOTLAND YOUTH SOCIAL ENTERPRISE PROJECT

CEMVO Scotland’s Youth Social Enterprise Project is funded by the Scottish Government to provide young people aged 16-25 from an ethnic minority background, who are interested in starting a social enterprise business, with support, advice and access to mainstream services.

CEMVO Scotland’s Youth Social Enterprise Officer can provide 1-1 support to young people to access mainstream funding, support and training, as well as helping with business plans, funding applications, market research, etc.

What is a Social Enterprise?

Social Enterprises are businesses like any other businesses.  They need to be well run, sell viable products or services and operate effectively.

However, they differ from traditional businesses in that they exist for a social purpose.  Their profits are invested back into the social activities of the business rather than being driven for profit.

What this means is that, if you have a business idea that can help you and your community, you could start-up a social enterprise and we can help you do it.

Social Enterprises we have supported to get started :-

Culture Vibe

Culture Vibe was set up by Myra Salim and provides opportunities for young Asian women to promote their business/social enterprise and/or empowers them to access support and funding to start their own businesses/social enterprises.

Myra said “...without the support of CEMVO Scotland, I don't think I would have even started up a business.  Thank you CEMVO for helping me get this far."

Creative Entertainment

Creative Entertainment is a media production project and was set up by Etienne Kubwabo when he struggled to find employment in the creative industries after graduating in media studies. “When you are a young talented artist, nobody will help you make music videos or allow you on to the radio so you are left feeling demotivated, isolate and struggle to make ends meet.”

YOUTH_SOCIAL_ENTERPRISE_pic_2.png Creative entertainment provides a platform for young people who are interested in the creative industries to showcase their talents and share their skills and experience.  Young people can take part in training workshops in Video Production, Editing, Photopgraphy, etc.

CEMVO Scotland provided me with great knowledge of information and support.  They have helped me through planning and organising my social enterprise in completing various funding applications to start up my social enterprise" (young person)

Workshops

CEMVO Scotland also provides free talks and workshops to organisations and young people to raise awareness about social enterprise and the support we can provide, as well as providing young people with the opportunity to learn more about social

enterprise and take part in our Start Something Special Competition.
