The Ethnic Minority Climate Action Hub Engagement Programme is one of CEMVO’s projects amongst many. This is funded by the Scottish Government to:
- support 4 Regional Climate Action Hubs in dealing with race/equalities matters.
- engage with other regional climate hubs and provide ad hoc support when required on race/equalities.
- help identify the need for outreach work and engagement with the 4 regional climate action hubs.
- offer race/equalities training sessions to all hub co-ordinators collectively across Scotland.
MISSION AND AIMS
Our mission is to prepare, support, equip, empower, and build the capacity of regional climate hubs coordinators, staff, partner organisations and networks rise for racial equity and justice for all ethnic minority organisations and communities in Scotland.
Our aims are:
- to promote the values of race/equalities and assist the regional hub coordinators, individual staff in making practical and structural changes that contributes to a positive impact in the fight against racism and racial inequity.
- to create an inclusive culture of belonging where a diverse workforce feels safe, included, respected, and valued, and where they are free to express and divulge their true self without fear of discrimination and being celebrated for it.
WE OFFER:
- Offer learning opportunities through conversations and dialogue about race, racism in practise and what to do about it.
- provide self-reflection and analytical opportunities to understand how racism operates in us, our families, workplaces, institutions, and in the world.
- build trusting relationships that can sustain difficult conversations about race.
- help prepare individual staff able to support each other on their racial equity and justice journey.
The beauty of anti-racism is that you don’t have to pretend to be free of racism to be anti-racist. Anti-racism is the commitment to fight racism wherever you find it, including yourself.
OUR SUPPORT
Our consultancy arm of the programme offers support to organisations in all areas of their organisational development.
As a critical friend, we work with organisations on an individual basis to determine where they are now and where they would like to be regarding race equality in order to come up with up with bespoke, long-term actions. Areas of support include, but are not limited to, reviewing: recruitment policies, practices and procedures including retention and progression; equality policies and strategy; data collection and analysis; and community engagement plans.
