The Employability Project at EMpowering Women Programme offers a free and confidential service to ethnic minority women in Glasgow and surrounding areas age 25-55 with tailored employment advice and support.

The project is successfully engaging with women by providing a range of interventions such as support with CV’s, cover letter and job applications, sourcing work placements and volunteer work, job searching, interview techniques and support with applications for further and higher education.

Women have reported an increase in their skills and confidence and gained entry into work placements and volunteering, training, higher/further education and securing paid employment.

Raissa is a 28 year old African woman that approached the Employability Project to enquire about an administrative work placement to compliment her HND course in Administration and IT. In conjunction with Raissa a tailored C.V. and covering letter was created and we contacted Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector. After a successful interview Raissa was offered an administrative work placement at Payroll and the HR department. She reports that the experience has improved her confidence, developed knowledge and skills in administration and clarified her career goals. Raissa is more likely to be successful applying for jobs and we will continue to support her with job searching, mentoring in mock interviews and updating her C.V. with her recent work experience which will create a great impression to employers.

Raiss appreciates the support she has received and says:

 “With encouragement and support by Julia, my Employability Officer I successfully completed a work placement at Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector and now feel more confident to enter the work place as an Administrator. My course finishes in June and I will be applying for part time Admin work whilst I am continuing my studies at university”.
